UNLEASHING POTENTIAL

Case Study

Transferred to Talent Development

The Challenge

For 20 years, Susan was an HR executive at an insurance company. When the firm went through a series of mergers and acquisitions, Susan’s job was to lay-off employees whose services were no longer needed. Not long into that role, Susan had the realization that she, too, was likely to be among those laid off. As expected, the day came when her services were no longer needed, and Susan found herself looking for a job for the first time in 20 years.

The Solution

Susan attended a Vision Quest Consulting retreat, which provided a structured format to help her determine what to do next. Through workshops and exercises at the event, it became clear that her skills were transferable, and she could explore continuing to work in HR but in a different (and more challenging) capacity. She developed a plan of action and the confidence to reach beyond the world that she knew. Her peers from the retreat expanded her network, opening new doors and making the job hunt less daunting.

Results

Susan used her depth of knowledge, extensive experience and newfound confidence to convince a hiring manager that she could be an effective Talent Development Manager. She now works for a healthcare company, optimizing employee performance and satisfaction. She has a 5-minute commute instead of a 90-minute commute, and she is thrilled to have more time to spend with her family.

Sticking to Strengths

The Challenge

Allison had a long-standing career in operations for a retail company. On a personal quest to be more healthy and happy, she successfully lost 100 pounds. She found, however, that she was still feeling stressed by her job and dissatisfied with her work life. She found herself wanting something more, but was unsure of what that might be.

The Solution

Allison attended a Vision Quest Consulting retreat, which helped her uncover her unique talents and personal strengths. Through workshops at the event and the help of her peers, she discovered that she was a gifted listener and skilled in helping others with their own challenges. At the retreat, Allison had the epiphany that the role of Life Coach was the perfect outlet for her skill-set and preferences. Her new network of peers gave her the confidence and know-how to get started as an Life Coach

.

Results

Allison is getting certified as a Coach, and plans to start by continuing her full-time job and coaching on a part-time basis.

Mom Returns to Work Remotely

The Challenge

Denise was a stay-at-home mother with two kids in elementary and middle school. She had had a successful career as an executive assistant, but because her husband was a company CFO, his salary was enough for the family to live on comfortably. One day, Denise’s husband suggested that she go back to work. She thought about it, but wasn’t sure how to re-enter the workforce and maintain a good balance for herself and her family. Shortly thereafter, Denise’s husband was laid off from his job, and it became essential that Denise create income for the family.

The Solution

Denise attended a Vision Quest Consulting retreat. Through exercises and conversations at the event, it became clear that, while she had been out of the workforce for some time, Denise still had a valuable skillset as an executive assistant. By working with the Vision Quest Consulting team and her peers, Denise realized that she could maintain her life balance by working remotely, on a part-time basis, as a “virtual assistant.”

Results

Denise outlined the services she could provide and developed a plan to implement them. She even acquired a new client at the event! Today she runs her own business and works from home, providing both the income and balance her family needs.

Fitness as a Focal Point

The Challenge

Joan was a successful salesperson at a technology company. Married, with two young children, she was so busy that she had little time to devote to herself and her own well being. One day, she looked in the mirror and didn’t like what she saw. Soon after, she started exercising regularly and felt better and better. She still felt, however, that she didn’t have the balance and satisfaction she was looking for in her career and life.

The Solution

Joan attended a Vision Quest Consulting retreat, which gave her the time and space to think about what she really wanted. Through thought-provoking workshops at the retreat, she came to the realization that fitness was an integral and crucial part of her life that should become a focal point rather than an item on her to-do list. The Vision Quest Consulting team provided the structure, and fellow attendees gave her the confidence to make a plan to become a personal trainer. She even signed up personal training clients at the event!

Results

Joan got certified as a personal trainer and continued her education by taking classes in nutrition. She started her own business as an in-home personal trainer, and just recently purchased her own gym. Today Joan uses her business development skills from her “previous life,” but focuses on her love of fitness and well-being, which she gladly shares with her clients and peers.
